RESOLUTION

Assembly of Churches, 

Saturday, August 15, 2009,

St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, Cleveland, Ohio

WHEREAS, nineteen (19) Serbian Orthodox Churches from the United States and Canada gathered at an Assembly on August 15, 2009, at the St. Sava Hall at 2151West Wallings Road, Broadview Heights, Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, commencing with a Prayer, the assembled Church delegates, in a most respectful manner, discussed the Church administrative issues, which were of concern to the Church membership of their respective parishes; and 

 

WHEREAS, the most discussed topic was the improper dissolution of the New Gracanica Metropolitanate by the Holy Hierarchical Assembly in Belgrade, Serbia onMay 21, 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, any change to the status of the New Gracanica Metropolitanate is governed by the Transitional Regulations dated February 4, 1992; and

WHEREAS, the New Gracanica Metropolitanate was not dissolved because the said Transitional Regulations require that the Church-Laity Assembly (Sabor) of the New Gracanica Metropolitanate accept a unifying Constitution, and such acceptance never occurred, as evidenced by numerous eyewitness accounts and recorded materials; and

 

WHEREAS, the New Gracanica Metropolitanate has not approved the new constitution of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the North and South America; and

 

WHEREAS, the New Gracanica Metropolitanate, member churches have been reassigned to local dioceses with out the prior approval of the Church-Laity Assembly (Sabor) of the New Gracanica Metropolitanate; and

 

WHEREAS, the new constitution of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the North and South America was not approved, the churches of the New Gracanica Metropolitanate are not bound by the new constitution; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the delegates unanimously expressed their disappointments stating the lack of communication and improper implementation of the decision of the Holy Hierarchical Assembly, will in the long run irreparably damage the membership in the Serbian Orthodox Church in the North and South America, their Orthodoxy, the teachings of St. Sava, and the Serbian culture, which are the very essential elements of every Serbian Orthodox person; and

WHEREAS, the gathered delegates unanimously expressed their desire to stay firm in protecting the Serbian Orthodox Faith, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Orthodox Canons as written by the Holy Fathers, peacefully seek better understanding among all involved and under no circumstances to create an atmosphere of discord, which can be damaging to reaching the resolutions pleasing to God; and

 

WHEREAS, after a lengthy deliberation, issues were raised that need answers and clarification, which the gathered delegates and their respective Church members are going to seek responses for; and

 

WHEREAS, the gathered delegates have elected a representative body, a committee whose duty is to coordinate future activities and create a vehicle for a better understanding of all of the concerned Serbian parties; and

NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the foregoing concerns and discussions, and for the mutual benefit of all Orthodox Serbdom, in particular in North and South America, the Serbian Church delegates have promised to work together with all Serbs for a better and stronger Serbian community, richer and more vibrant religious life, seek a better understanding of the issues that need to be clarified and to make all of us stronger in our faith and nationality. The energy of this initial meeting will reverberate in a positive manner and create ways to enlarge the Serbian Orthodox Church, multiply Serbian places of worship, and make our Serbian Clergy proud of our accomplishments.
